*YOUR FAITH PLEASES GOD*
_Key Bible Text:_
*And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.*
(Hebrews 11:6 (NIV))
_Bible Insight:_
There’s no doubt about it: Our faith pleases God. And the lack of it displeases God.
In the Bible portion we read today, Jesus marveled at the faith of the centurion. We also read that he marveled at the unbelief of people he encountered in his ministry – because of their unbelief he “could not a mighty work there.â€
How does Jesus respond to your faith? Does He marvel at it? Or is He constrained from doing mighty work because of your unbelief?
When we don't exercise faith, we displease God. On the other hand, when we exercise faith, we please God. It's as simple as that.
Choosing a faith response gives God the opportunity to display His power. When you see His power in action, your faith is built up. And it gives God the chance to work in and through you to accomplish His purposes.
MEDITATION:
*What are you going to choose today – fear or faith? How will you please God today*

*FAITH OVER LOGIC*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.*
(Matthew 21:21 (NIV))
_Bible Insight:_
How does faith operate? For a start, faith begins where logic ends.
1 Corinthians 2:5 says that our faith does not “rest in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.â€
Faith is based on who God is - His unchangeable character, His power and His Word. Faith is not based on our ability, our expertise or our acumen.
Abraham exemplified this “illogical†faith. Hebrews 11:8 says that, “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.†(emphasis mine)
Quite unlike Abraham, we want to understand all the pros and cons before we implement a decision, or even take a step forward. But faith is about implicit trust and obedience in a God whose ways are far beyond our comprehension.
Like Abraham, faith will cause you do things which seem radical. It will cause you to look foolish. But, remember, such acts of faith propel the greatest breakthroughs.
MEDITATION:
*One of the greatest obstacles of faith is human logic. It’s only when you let go of logic can faith operate fully.*

*FEAR NOT*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?†Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm."*
(Matthew 8:26 NIV)
_Bible Insight:_
There’s no question about it: the situations we face in life will rock our boats. For the disciples, it was storm that had them in a tizzy. For us, it could be a job situation, a financial problem, a health condition, or a relationship issue, among other complications.
There are, literally, hundreds of perfectly logical reasons to give in to fear.
The Bible, however, makes it amply clear that God doesn't intend for us to succumb to fear. In fact, you might have heard that the phrase “fear not†appears over 365 times in Scripture.
While we will undoubtedly face fearful situations in life, our response to fear is critical. We can’t avoid circumstances that rock our boat, but we can choose to combat it the right way.
So, what is the antidote of fear?
The answer is found in the words of Jesus in Mathew 8:26: “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?â€
The verse doesn’t say, “O you of little courage†or “little education,†but, “you of little faith.†(emphasis mine)
Clearly, we can either succumb to fear - or operate through faith.
Faith inspired the young shepherd boy, David, to defeat a famed war hero twice his size, while the rest of the Israelite army trembled in fear.
*Faith looks fear in the eye. Faith dictates to fear. Faith leaves no room, not even a foothold, for fear.*
MEDITATION:
*Are you holding on to fear? Know that you can step out of the boat in faith when you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Pray for that mustard-seed-sized faith that will grow with each step of obedience.*

*WHY YOU NEED TO SHARE YOUR GRIEF WITH OTHERS*
_Key Bible Text:_
*Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.*
(Galatians 6:2 (NIV))
_Bible Insight:_
When facing trials, your emotional health needs to be a top priority. Feelings are neither good nor bad—they’re just emotions. But they need to be expressed appropriately to God and to a trusted friend. The Bible says, “Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ†(Galatians 6:2 NIV).
You don't have to share your feelings with everybody, but you do need to have one person you can confide in. Someone you can go to and say, "Hey, can I just tell you how I'm really feeling right now?" This is someone who will listen, share in your pain and frustration, and then help you move forward.
Paul gives a great example of sharing feelings instead of stuffing them in. He writes, *“My friends, I want you to know what a hard time we had in Asia. Our sufferings were so horrible and so unbearable that death seemed certainâ€* (2 Corinthians 1:8 CEV).
If Paul, the greatest Christian who ever lived other than Jesus Christ himself, could be gut-level honest about what he was going through, then we can, too.
MEDITATION:
*If you think there’s no one who needs you to be this kind of friend to them, ask God to help you become more aware of other people’s struggles.*

*PEOPLE NEED GRACE NOW MORE THAN EVER*
_Key Bible Text:_
*"But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.â€*
(James 4:6 (NIV))
_Bible Insight:_
To make it through crisis seasons or social unrest, you need to treat yourself and other people the way God treats you: with grace, mercy, and forgiveness.
Grace means that God always gives you what you need, not what you deserve. If you got what you deserved, you wouldn't even be here. “God gives us even more grace, as the Scripture says, ‘God is against the proud, but he gives grace to the humble’†(James 4:6 NCV).
God opposes the prideful and arrogant because they think they can do it all by themselves, apart from God. They don't think they need God or his grace. They approach life—even life in turmoil—with the mindset, “If it's to be, it's up to me.â€
But when you’re humble and admit that you can’t make it through difficult situations on your own, God opens the floodgates of heaven. He pours out his grace. And he expects those who have been shown amazing grace to then show that grace to others.
Everyone has gone through tough times. To maintain your emotional health, you need to cut yourself some slack and do the same for others. People are feeling stressed, particularly the millions who are out of work and concerned about the future—maybe even about how they will make it to the next day. Be kind and gentle. Even the hardest people to love are fighting some kind of battle right now and need your grace.
This will often take a lot of humility. When tensions are high, it’s easier to return wrong for wrong, give a sharp answer, withhold the benefit of the doubt, and speak before listening.
Your neighbor needs your grace. Your children need your grace. The person you disagree with politically needs your grace. The world is on the defense, and there is nothing that will disarm people more than being given unexpected grace.
MEDITATION:
God has given you great grace. Go and extend that grace to others so they get a glimpse of what Jesus has done for them.
